When you are running an unlicensed copy of Windows 10, you will get Windows isn’t activated. another way to do it is to run Slmgr /ipk XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX from an elevated command prompt replacing the X's with your product code. Go to settings to activate Windows watermark at the lower right corner of the desktop when running Windows 10 without activation. Then try activating again and type it in. Your BIOS's product key is at the bottom. Click on the ACPI Table button at the top. You can retrieve it with a utility like this, RWEverything | Read & Write Everything Download it, run it. It won't be listed on the COA sticker either. Your OEM key is embedded in the BIOS on Windows 8 PC's. Why your having activation problems is mystery though as the OEM key should be good to go. When you update to 8.1 it matches what was there so if you have Core you get 8.1 Core, if it was Pro you get 8.1 Pro. Your Windows 8 install was likely the factory OEM Windows 8 install. Core is usually what the Manufacturer installs, that's what was on my ASUS laptop when I got it. The only limitation imposed on you is that you can’t customize windows in any way. B) Besides those, The only thing you actually would notice. As near as I can tell the VL edition is only available in Pro so that's not what you have. It’ll show at the bottom right on the wallpaper that you have not activated windows yet. As to why your window is so huge in the first place, that is a mystery.Ok, if it doesn't say Pro its only the Core Edition. I don't see a way to attach screenshots here or I would post you an image of what I mean, so I hope my description is enough. Then you will be able to drag the window into full view on the screen. So move the window down a little so you can grab the upper left corner, then resize the window to be smaller. In fact, any edge of the window can be dragged to resize, it does not need to be a corner. You do not have to use only the bottom right corner. What RabidPenguin was trying to tell you is that all four corners of a window can be used for resizing. Is there not a way to have the windows always appear a certain size? I've searched the preferences folders, but nothing seems to apply. I've had it at the maximum resolution from the start anyway. I tried adjusting the screen resolution, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
